Average Permeability for Linear flow - Series beds Formula and Calculator

 In fluid mechanics Permeability, is defined as the ability of a porous material to allow fluids to pass through it. The permeability of a medium is related to its porosity and also to the shapes of the pores in the medium and their level of connectedness.

Eq. 1
kavg = ( L1 + L2 + L3 ) / ( L1 / k1 + L2 / k2 + L3 / k3 )

Eq. 2
kavg = Σ Ln / Σ (Ln / kn )

Where:

kavg = Average Permeability in Linear Systems Series (mD)
k1 = Permeability for layer 1 (mD)
k2 = Permeability for layer 2 (mD)
k3 = Permeability for layer 3 (mD)
L1 = Length of layer 1 (ft)
L2 = Length of layer 2 (ft)
L3 = Length of layer 3 (ft)

mD = millidarcy
