WHAT is a

transistion fit?

When dealing with fractions how can the following be worked out on a calculator

1/12 of 560

1/3 of 576

1/8 of 900

When dealing with face widths gears how can one inch be put in what is its value as in a question what is 1/16th of an inch or 1/8th of an inch what is its value.
So to start with what is an inch as in its value on calculator to work out face widths

Percentages If something is 70 per cent of something its put in a calculator as .7 right? If its 170 per cent its 1.7 as in 170. Is this correct.

Polar moment of inertia what exactly does this mean?

When dealing with tolerances in design this is the actual amount of strain an dimension on a component can take without being deformed or damaged etc???

Dealing with gears

What is a reverse ratio ??

What is a high ratio??

what is a medium ratio ??

what is a low ratio ??

When drawing the path of contact of two profiles of meshing gears need a guide on how to do this as our text book is very complicated.
Also when plotting cams design with SHM motion a guide or link would be good thanks

DONT GIVE UP THE FAITH

OK, so "1/12" means one divided by twelve, right? You can do that, right? Now multiply that by 560.

1/16 of an inch means one divied by 16, which happens to equal .0625. You will also find that 1/8 equals .125. So 1/16th inch is .0625 inch.

I could try to address the rest of your questions, but the answers would probably leave you as confused as your textbook obviously does.

Perhaps your text book does not explain these concepts because it expects you to know them before you take this coarse.

You may need to consider this possibility. Bob, most of what you have ask is extremely basic math.

Also, you will need to have these basic math skills to grasp the theory of gear mesh.

Perhaps, it would be wise to revist some basic math coarses.

I wish you the best of luck in that direction.
