Hello.
I am trying to calc the output torque of a gear reducer consisting of a bunch of spur, pinion gears in the gear train. Assuming 100% gear efficiency, is the output torque simply a ratio: Torque(in) x RPM(in)/RPM(out)= Torque(out)?
I know Torque(in)= 34.29 g-cm @ 4,000 rpm
I know RMP (out)= .71 rpm
Is there a typical efficiency for a well design gear train I can use or are there just too many variables? Strictly for a coarse estimate of output torque.

Is it just me, or assuming 100% effeciency, have you answered the calc problem?

in/out x torque

4000/.71 = 5633.8028 x torque.....

I tend to use 75% efficiency as a "safety factor" coverage.
