Guys-
Does anybody know how to call out maximum porosity in a steel casting? I an looking to do a fuel tank part that is welded to sheet metal AND needs to seal the gas in.

Thanks,
mk.

I beleive the porosity is controlled and is inherent to the material specification. Hook up with your foundary or manufacturing engineer and see what is consistant with the material you are specifying. Often, testing is used to verify material consistancy and performance of the cast part.

For example; a penetrant or magnetic particle inspection may be required. Chemical analysis on each lot core sample. Pressure tests and leakage rate specified. Hardness, tensile stress, ect defined and tested.
