Can any one help me to find the Electric motor power calculation for pulling the load on wheel and rail? Drive is with Electric motor and gear box combination. The Gear box has 3 stage reduction coupled with wheel shaft. Load frame has got 2 driving wheels out of total 8 wheels.


I would like to calculate the power calculation for electric loco which is moving on rail similar Passenger train.
Total weight of loco is 36 ton. Gear ratio between wheel and motor is 38. drive efficiency 0.85? Can you tell me how we can calculate the electric motor power for running the loco at the speed of 30 m/min?

What kind of "load"? On an incline?, etc.
Hint:
gear boxes contribute negligibly to power required.
Comment:
I think you may need some additional background in basic physics to do this problem on your own.
