I have a Fan/Blower design that I need help with. My customer is mounting (8) 4" Sq fans (100cfm each) side by side mounted inside a long rectangular metal box...no extra cowling or duct work.

The box cover has (8) 4" dia. cutouts as the output.

If I measure airflow at the output...should I expect an 800 cfm reading or 8 separate readings of 100cfm?

I think the later, and should incorporate a plenum at the output so that the all 8 fan outputs have a combined cfm rating.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks

The later is correct. You must consider the installation for loses also. Be careful measuring as any restriction created by the measuring equipment will result in a loss of flow or a lower measurement. Straighten (4x duct cross section should do)the air before measuring using a flow hood or pitot tube.
