Can anyone tell me how to test an unknown material for it's "damping ratio'?

Do you want to know how to measure damping ratio or the natural frequency of a part/material? Damping is the dissipation of energy, usually by releasing it in the form of low-grade heat as a result of friction or as a mechanical anti-vibration system. Rubber shock mounts, like used to absorb vibration of a reciprocating engine, are damping mechanisms.
