I would like to set up an engine test rig. I want to fix the engine setup using antivibration pads. Can you inform me whether we have some standards in using antivibration pads for different catagories of engines. Any one pls help me

Thanks&Best regards Ratheesh R Nath

Anti vibrasion engine mounts are different from anti-vibration pads. Pads are usually Cork or Neoprene compunded designed to combat problems caused by structure born vibrations and noise and can withstand max 50Kg load. Anti vibration Mounts are used to combat compression cum shear and consists of rectangular elastomer component bonded between two steel plates. The environment inside the engine determines the selection of the rubber type as per O.S.H.A. anchoring standards. While natural rubber has the best hysteresis properties, it lacks heat and oil resistance. Nitrile rubber is better to withstand moderate heat and oil. Other exotic synthetic rubbers which withstand high heat are not worth using in mounts. The hardness of rubber, TS and minimum thickness are detarmined by Load vs Deflection curve which must be linear.Deflection must be neither low ( will lead to transmission of vibration ) nor high ( shear will break the rubber. Finally the meral-rubber bonding must be robust.
