hello
we are well familiar with the stress strain curves when a material is subjected to tensile force and we have hook's law and everything. but i would like to know about the behaviour of a material when subjected to compressive loads and please explain me whether hook's law holdsgood for the material subjected to compressive loads. please give me the diagrams if any with the explanation.
thank u.
mecmohan

Hello

Yes, hooks law works in compression (elastic range). Just watch for instability in slender columns.

hello mr.stewart
thank u for ur reply. can u please tell me about slender columns as i am not aware of those. if possible please give me detailed details of those.
thank u
