Pump Selection Question

In brief, I am wanting to setup a system where a collapsable bag is sealed and filled with water. A pump (connected to the bag via a tube) is to evacuate the water from the bag. The bag is to be totally collaped in the end.

I need to determine the type of pump that would be suitable for this application. My concern is that since the inlet to the pump will be effectively blocked when the bag is collapsed that the pump break prematurely. This cycle is to be repeated every 10 minutes or so.

Please let me know what type(s) of pumps are suitable for this application. (Primarily the repeated complete "clogging" of the inlet.)

Many Thanks!

I wonder if the pump selection is as important as maybe a pressure actuated bypass valve. You might also think about a pressure sensing switch which will cutoff the pump when a low or negative pressure is present.

I'm reasonably sure you do not want to run a pump under load when it is not required.
