I want to rebuild my gangway from shoreside platform to the floating dock.
I want to use "L" (angle iron) and 5/4 wood for the top.
My question:
What size angle iron do I need to spane 20 feetm and have a width of gangway 26"?
There will be no support other than at the top and at the bottom.
Maximum weight at any one time in the center, +/- 15 feet, will not be greater than 400 pounds.
The material should be hot dipped galvanized OR aluminum....cost IS a concern.

Thank you for your help.

Mike

You failed to mention a hand rail. The thing is the hand rail can be designed into the gangway to form a bridge truss. This is how you are going to be able to gain the strength you need.

Randy, thank you. I was hoping not to use a handrail. Any suggestions?
