the heat treated parts will have a slightly different colour than the non heat treated part and will be on the darker side. and if a particular zone of a oart is heat treated the u will be able to visualise a change in the colour zone and it will bw distinctly viisible

If there is an area that you can scratch with a scribe without causing the part to fail quality control or start a fracture crack, you can tell a HT part from a non-HT part in a heart beat with a scratchtest. Many parts will change the resonance pitch after being heat treated. Lay one of each on a soft surface or hang them from a loop of string and tap them with a small hard plastic mallet. If they sound very different you are in business. Be sure to strike them and hang them from the same locations each time. The worst suggestion of your lifetime may be the catalyst to the grandest idea of the century, never let suggestions go unsaid nor fail to listen to them.
