In shell bearing there is bearing crush provided so that the bearing shell when torqued they are compressed. Why is that what is the purpose. What if there is no bearing crush at all.Can anybody explain in detail.

Is that the same case with all bearing of this type?????

Crush provides the bearing shell fits tightly in the bore, eliminates movement which would wear the bearing bore in the housing as well as the back of the bearing, facilitates proper lubrication and heat transfer. Watch out for reduced or even no crush in old machines or after a wreck. OD of bearing shell whould be slightly larger than ID of the bore it goes into. how much depends ont he bearing and housing (bore) material and the loading type of machine, operating temp, etc.
