Dear Sir/Madam

This is my first post to the forum. Hope to get some reply from experts.

I'm facing a challenge of noise from the roller wheel base mounting in the refrigerators. On Anlysis I found that the sound is coming from the friction between the metallic roller shaft and the metallic mounting channel. Also there is a rolling observed in the roller shaft.

Now I'm looking for a new type of mounting:
1) To avoid mettalic contact
2) Rolling of roller

Also I would like to replace rollers with Castors to assist in all direction movability of refrigerators.

For your understanding
1) Refrigerator Load: 175 Kg (max)
2) Each refrigerator will be supported by 4 wheels at four corners at the base L=715mm W=245mm center distance for the castor wheels.
3) Pocket size for roller mounting channel: 54mm * 51 mm

So castor wheel sh'ld fit into this.

Our only requirement is that rollers sh'ld take the load of 175 Kg. at the same time we cannot increse the roller size or poket size. The load as you know will be shared by 4 rollers.
We do not wish to add bearings between roller and axle shaft.

I have herd about some tolerance rings but not sure whether that can eliminate the noise challange.

Kindly give your opinion suggesting the suitable mounting type.

Best Regards

Why is the axle (shaft) rotating in the channel?

There are many rollers that fit in various casters out there. Remember, you can most likely purchase any part of any product you find if you locate and request that part from the company producing it.

You need a roller with a bronze or nylon sleeve type bearing. Then secure the darned shaft so it doesn't rotate.

Dear Mr. Randy

Thanks for your reply.

The axle shaft (MS mat)is rotating and since it touches the mounting bracket plate (MS 2mm)holes on either side of roller. It causes a sharp sound to be produced whenever the rolling takes palce. Since the weight is very high(175 Kg) the frictional forces developed are also large at the point of contact which infact is a point contact on sither side of rollers on two mounting bracket plate holes.

Reason for rolling of axle shaft:
1) It is not properly secured as there is no mounting bearing
2) Nylon Rollers are loosely placed over the axel so when the weight (175Kg ) is applied on rollers it makes a line contact with the axel. The frictional forces between roller and axle makes it to roll along with roller.

Kindly also suggest where I can find good design related study material for this problem.

Best Regards
