Use of lockwashers in plastic assemblies

I am reviewing a number of assemblies where the engineer called out the use of lockwashers when assembling hard plastic parts to aluminum parts.

The washers are used in all sizes from #2 to #8 cap screws. My opinion is that lockwashers are non-functional in this application since the plastic part provides more than enough compression to maintain screw preload.

Anyone share their thoughts?

Many, if not most polymers (plastics) tend to creep (elongate, stretch or compress)with the application of stress (load). Cyclic loading, and thermal variations tend to accelerate the polymers deformation over time.

Depending on your application, the lock washer could be a very good (quality) ideal.
