Can some shed some light on viscosity index? I'm trying to find out the kinematic viscosity of 15W40 at cold start, ie -40 deg Celsius, but the index range is between 40 & 100 deg Celsius. Since viscosity is inversely related to temperature, can I assume a linear relationship and extrapolate the curve to get desired viscosity at -40 deg C? My concern is that the curve is non-linear and the fact viscosity is also pressure dependent. Is there a mathematical relationship out there I can use?
