in sand molds

the parting line & parting plane play an important role..

My question is:
1- where is this importance highly considered?
2- what changes might happen upon messing with the parting plane/line?
3- what advices to be given in choosing the parting line and controling it??

thanks

One thing to think of in a parting line is a location that makes the pattern easy to assemble. A thick location of the drafts, and easy pattern manufacture is a factor. The parting line needs to be in a location that makes the mold sections easiest to manage but provides a smart location for forming the tree, sprues and vents. Deciding on the sprue, the vent locations and number of castings in the same sand mold on what shape of tree will dictate the wisest parting line location. Now and in experience and the art of sand casting becomes a profession.
