Ok, Im designing a valve and have assumed Q proportional to A for turbulent flow...

I have the area/flow profile I wish to apply, and im using this to determine the form of the control surface (its a poppet valve. My question is a mathematical one:

I have an inclined annular ring: That is to say, the smaller inside ring is moved out of the plane of the first. See diagram.

If I knew the area, outside ring diameter and the Angle 'A' (between horizontal and line linking rings), how can I find 'R' (where R is the shortest distance between rings)

Its ok I found it out, its a truncated cone, you integrate from zero to the truncation height, decreasing the radius of the circles as r=R-y*tan(A) where y is increasing altitude and R is the initial radius of the outer diameter.

Surface Area = pi*2*R*Y-pi*Y^2*tan(A)

to find Y or other dimensions you must solve a quadratic.

Yeah, sorry, I only know the area, and the outside diameter (which represents the orifice), and the angle (im performing a parametric sweep of the angle.

If it as simple as a bit of trig then I wouldnt have asked... honest!

sorry, i would like to ask something different from the thread starter wrote here...

for internal diameter of valves...is it using the dimension of standard's minimum requirement or using internal diameter of adjacent pipes??
