i am doin a project on lathe and want to know that if one is interested in finding the cutting force exerted on the cutting(turning,facing) tool what parameters shd be considered. Also, is ther any direct(or indirect) mathematical formula for derivation of forces supposing we r in complete knowledge of speed, feed ,depth etc.

The lathe is a normal tool room lathe

Cutting forces and chip flow angle.
There are three cutting forces,nose radius,depth of cut,lead angle assosiated with cutting edge.

CFA=90-atan (a-x/b)
Axial Force=F =F x cos (CFA)
a h
Radial Force=F =Fh x sin(CFA)
r

Determine value of cutting force.Kc=Fc divided by A N/mm sqaured
Determination of axial and radial forces is done by determining resultant force

I do not know of such a formula.

There are many, many variables beyond the obvious RPM, Depth of cut, and Feed rate.

Things like;

tool sharpness,
tool shape,
material,
chip breaker style,
rigidity of the saddle (how it effects harmonics),
direction of cut,
coolant type or lack of,
negative or positive tool configuration,
tool radius size,
center height of tool,

and more...

The worst suggestion of your lifetime may be the catalyst to the grandest idea of the century, never let suggestions go unsaid nor fail to listen to them.
