Breakaway design Question

I am designing a machine component that needs to break free of a lug chain when it encouters unusual resistance. I am trying to locate fasteners that would break away and then be easily reset. I am thinking along the lines of a ratchet attatchment (like for a socket set) or a barbie doll head (if you had a little sister you know you've done it). If you know of a general term for these components, a good resource, or you have any advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank You

I don't know your load considerations, ... but...

I have had excellent luck using sections of that snap together flexable hose for collant. They come in a few different sizes and with a little effort you can attach them to something with an internal screw. They can be snapped together and apart many times without much harm to them... and ... they work a lot like your sisters Barbie doll head.

If you have trouble relating to what they are or where to get them drop me an e-mail... be sure to identify yourself as the author of this thread as I get several E-mails a day and must sort quite a few into the can.

What is your breakaway load and what are the down sides if it doesn't work as designed (i.e. personel injury?)

Thanks for the suggestion, I never thought of that, but I'll look into it. I need the breakaway load to be between 20 and 25 lbs. I also need the fastener to fit within a 1/4" dia. envelope 1/2" long. There is no risk of personal injury, the current design is not breakaway, this causes damage to the machine on a regular basis.
