A critically dampened system example would be a Lehman seismo sensor. You can see an admittedly simple example at my web page at www.whazitfun.com go to the seismic tab. My Lehman sensors are dampened to about 25 seconds per cycle. Tuning is very critical. A simple example of an overdampened system would be the hitch on a bumper pulled travel trailer. This would be the ones using the springs for counter balance with a friction or shock dampener added to the side of the hitch to dampen trailer swings. The idea is to kill all swings but still allow the trailer to turn. No, all are public domain, as I understand, from a down load of public domain (over 25 years old) arrangements. If you know something I should know, please let me know.
