Referring to centrifugal compressors; if efficiency, vibration and noise are not a criteria, then you can still use an air compressor to compress helium. Usually, the same compressor can be used to satisfactorily compress two different gases if both of the gases have the same specific heat ratio. Helium is monoatomic (1.67) whereas air has a gamma of 1.4 and hence we can expect a bad performance.

Thanks for your reply. I'll be using piston type compressor. It's a two stage one with a designed CFM of 640 l/min n a power of 7.5 Hp. I'm intending to purchase this compressor this week, so any advice u can give me would be most welcomed. Will the capacity/min decrease considerably? Thanks
