Hi all,

Can i know the exact purpose of providing wavy structure in water bottles?

If they are given for the strength of bottles with very minimum wall thickness, How to calculate the inertia of the wavy portions and proove the bottle design is safe under various pressure conditions.

Can any one help me on this regard.

Thanks,
kamalesh

Hi,

This might have to do with the ability of the walls of the container to compress upon impact, i.e. drop test, without splitting along the parting line. Those convolutions allow for flexibility along all axes. Just my thoughts.

I'm thinking it is a product of forming the glass as productive as possible, flat enough in the mold is flat enough. I wonder and think it is from the flow of the glass as it is expanded blown into the molds, being flash cooled by contact with the mold surface enough to hold shape before it has completely finished flowing.

Dear all
Thank you for your replies, but I think there is something relates with strength of the bottle by providing such a structure.

Regards

hi...

as far as i know, it doesnt hav any specific reason... just for an aesthetic look and for a better grip it wudhav been given...

if at all u r sure tht some technical reason may b there then i cud develop an anology with the asbestos sheets... they r made in a wavy shape so tht they can withstand pressures on their surface area...

u can chack this with a piece of paper... take a sheet and keep it in air by holding its edges... if u place a 5 rupee coin over it, the paper will not b able to hold it...
but keep the paper folded in wave format and then place the coin over it, u'll see tht the paper cud hold it and even it'll hold more than 3 coins...

this can b a cause... i dunno exactly but i just guessed...
