Can you tell me in terms of  percent ultimate tensile strength, what maximum compressive stress I could use on a material.   I have seen figures higher than the "tensile" yield used.

My scenario is the compressive stress on the material due to a small washer face under a bolt head.  I would like to know the allowable stress, not how to redesign the joint
