Hello all,
I am researching the load bearing characteristics of cordage and would appreciate help from engineers. The data I need is the load bearing characteristics of each “strand” in cordage. As you add equal size strands to a cord, up to three strands, does the load bearing capacity increase at an equal rate? Example: If each strand has a capacity of 100 lbs., would a three-strand cord have a load capacity of 300 lbs? Does spiraling or braiding the strands increase load capacity and if so by how much. Thank you.
