Hello,
I am looking for a material recommendation for a heatsink being designed. I have a board that I need to dissipate about 5W of power from. The size of the heatsink is about 3x3x.5 inches. The sink will come into contact with a thermal pad which will make contact with and aluminum enclosure. Can someone make a recommendation on a good grade of aluminum to use here and the manufacturing process(cast, machined). Thanks, Phil |

5w of heat isnt very much, so pretty much any grade aluminum can be used. Is there a reason you arent going to use copper? simple, bead welded design would work fine.
