Hello,
I am looking for a material recommendation for a heatsink being designed. I have a board that I need to dissipate about 5W of power from. The size of the heatsink is about 3x3x.5 inches. The sink will come into contact with a thermal pad which will make contact with and aluminum enclosure.
Can someone make a recommendation on a good grade of aluminum to use here and the manufacturing process(cast, machined).
Thanks,
Phil

5w of heat isnt very much, so pretty much any grade aluminum can be used. Is there a reason you arent going to use copper?

simple, bead welded design would work fine.
