If you're using a manual drive (hand crank), use a manual brake, Release it before every adjustment.
Hi,
I am designing a mechanism that allows for 2 parallel racks move back and forth simultaneously using two pinions connected together with a bar and a wheel handle at the end. The racks need to be allowed to be adjusted but prevented from moving as boxes will be hitting into the mechanism. How could one prevent the rack from moving position ? also the rack and pinion will be positioned over a balcony so that they can only be adjusted using the wheel handle.
thanks

Thank you, how could I further my information on mechanical breaks for rack and pinions
Google mechanical brakes or spring loaded brakes. Lots of options out there. They are for any mechanical system, not just rack and pinion drives.
