Although I'm not an engineer, I enjoy tinkering with things and am curious about how PVC items are made. Learning how to create and bring to life an object seems to be a very simple endeavor.
Vinyl chloride monomer is converted into PVC through polymerization.
The raw material VCM is first compressed and liquefied, and it is then supplied into the polymerization reactor, which has been prefilled with water and suspending agents.
The initiator is then pumped into the reactor, where PVC is created between 40 and 60 degrees Celsius under a few bars.
Water helps to dissipate and regulate the heat produced during the polymerization process. PVC is created by microscopic particles growing to the proper size, at which point the reaction is terminated and any unreacted vinyl chloride is distilled off and reused.
PVC is separated from the other materials and dried to produce PVC resin, a white powder.
There are numerous processes, including this one, so if you work in the field, like ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^., which manufactures PVC additives, it is obvious that you should be familiar with them all.
