I have a stamping from one supplier that is to be mated with a roll formed part in which we are punching the same hole pattern. The stamping is picked from a nest by a robot and is to be aligned with the roll formed part hole pattern. We have various means to grip the roll formed part in a repeatable and moderately precise location. We have the means to grip the stamping in a repeatable and moderately precise location. How do I go about aligning the stamping with the roll formed part so that blind rivets can be inserted? I was thinking of using tapered alignment pins in the end of arm tooling that gripped the stamping, that entered the roll formed part hole pattern and pushed the roll formed part so that the holes were in a nominal location in space so the rivet tool - which goes to the nominal hole location - can place the rivets through those holes. Looking for advice from someone who might have done this.
