Linear motor question

Hello
In linear motors is there a relationship between permanent magnets and windings number or can I put as many magnets and windings I want? For example can I put 2 magnets and 12 windings or 4 magnets and 10 windings or is there a rule that constraints me?

They are usually of the AC linear induction motor (LIM) design with an active three-phase winding on one side of the air-gap and a passive conductor plate on the other side. However, the direct current homopolar linear motor railgun is another high acceleration linear motor design.
I think there is no rules that constraints you.
