Hi there,
Im trying to figure out how to calculate the "burst" rating of a sight glass that is made from tempered glass - we have a project were the customer wants a large "viewing window" or sight glass, and after my first attempt (and subsequent test) I am totally not in the ball park.
I was treating the window as a "beam" and was expecting the glass to fail in bending - not even close to the experimental results, I then thought it might be failing in shear around the "rim" of the glass.. again,, not even close.
Does anyone have any ideas?
The glass does not have any pressure gradient across it - ie not like a window in a swimming pool with hrdrostatic pressue.
Hopefully someone here can help!
Cheers
Tom
