    Profile and Flatness tolerance

    Hello;

    We have a customer's print of a tube with a flatness requirement at one end of the tube and a profile tolerance at the other. The tube length is a basic dimension. There is some confusion internally as to the effective length tolerance of this part. As in, what are the maximum and minimum distances that two parallel plates could be placed apart and a good part just fit between (assuming flat ends on the part). Or, to restate, what would the dimensions of a go/no-go gauge be?

    Measuring from the top or left side (Datum A) of the part, the tolerance is 84 +/- 0.1. Profile of Surface tolerance is bi-lateral equal by default.

    This is a very fundamental question.
