Second: I am not a student.
I need to build a stand 1,000 mm wide 800 mm deep and 500 mm tall. It has to safely support a static load of 600 kg (1,322 pounds). For a safety factor I would like it to be able to hold 1,000 kg (2,204 pounds). My plan is to use 1.5" square tubing (3/16" wall) to build a frame. Cut two rails 1,000 mm long. Join these with three rails, two at each end and one at the mid point. To this I add legs at each corner and add a stretcher at the midpoint of each leg. Also, add a 4" triangular gusset at each of the four corners. Finally, place a 10 mm (3/8") thick plate on top. Everything will be welded together.
I have been reading about deflection of steel, modulus of elasticity, comprehensive strength and more but it is just too much for me. I don't have the math background for these calculations. I believe my design will be more that strong enough but I would like the math to back me up or prove me wrong.
