I am currently having to find out how many bolts to use to anchor a steel plate to a concrete wall. I know what what size bolt I am using and I know the dimensions and weight of the plate. I am just a little confused on how to find out how many bolts to use for the plate?
I know the bolt has a tensile strength of 14,000 lbs and a shear strength of 11,500 lbs and I know I have to find the tension on the bolts from the weight of the plate and the moments. If anyone can help with anything else I would be very grateful. Thank you.
The number of bolts will depend on the more on pull-out forces. The force needed to pull a bolt out of concrete tends to be quite high. After running the numbers, you may find that 2 No bolts are sufficient to resist the forces of the plate but fail the pull tests.
TL;DR:-
Run the numbers and see what you get.
