    Activated Sludge Calculations

Hello...Can anyone here prove that the retention time in aeration tank of activated sludge system is equal to V/Q without considering the Qr? Thanks

Has anybody told you differently or has a client questioned your methods?

V/Q is only a simplified form of HRT; assuming the effluent flow rate will be equal to the influent rate. For simple systems this is more than enough and, if need be, can be used to control the return rate so that the initial time still stands.

Calculating what the return rate is needs a different calc.
