Hi, I am calculating the safety factor for a cement elevator chain. To do this I need to calc the chain pull.
I can do this, however I am getting confused between chain pull and force acting as a result of torque at the drive on the chain.
If I calc a force acting in a roller chain it is basically torque / radius. But when I calc chain pull I never use the actual spkt diameter or motor power?
I then simply devide the chain pull by the UTS of the chain to determine the actual service factor.
My method for chain pull is simply 9.81 multiplied by all the the weight considerations and center distance adding a dredge factor. Is this correct or should I also consider the force that will also be the force acting on the drive shaft.
I struggle to understand the diff in chain tensions, pull and force - maybe over thinking it?
