I am designing a 72" spreader bar to hoist 5600 lbs total from ends of bar. We will be lifting from bar center. I have found numerious charts for steel C channel beams and have found that a double 5" steel 6.7 lbs/ft will hold 6660 lbs.
I am concidering using aluminum C channel, but cannot find a similar Allowable Load At Center Of Steel Angle and "C" Channel Span Guideline.
I have found a supplier for 6" 6061 aluminum C channel that is 6.000 x 2.500 x 0.170 web 0.290 leg thickness 2.834 lbs per foot. Will this handle the 6,000 lb live load at center when it is doubled, spaced at 1.125" and plates wielded to ends to resist twisting?
I have very much the same thing going on here. 12" Aluminum channels back to back spanning 16ft with 1,125lb load on trolley and hoist. Will it work? I'll be watching your post
