From Industrial Engineering to Biomedical

Hello guys,

I have graduated engineering school with Industrial Engineering degree few years ago. However now I am planning to go to grad school in BME for masters degree. I know those two majors cover totally different areas, but I'm really into BME research areas since my company is basically doing those things. So I want to hear what you guys think about that. I am especially interested in developing optics and imaging systems that can be used for patients. Is my IE background going to help on studying and researching in area of BME? If so, how do you think those two different studies would interdisciplinary mixed?

Let me diverge a little from the official mainstream perspective on education.

First, if you want to have a decent starting position and upward mobility within a medium to large organization or company (public or private sector), get a degree. Also, the more degrees the better however be aware that degrees don't ensure success and a specific position. Oh course if you earn a specialty degree you more apt to get a specific position.

If you want to work in small business or start your own business - get an education.

So, with all this said, sounds like a good personal goal, however don’t bet on any specific rewards in your corporate environment.

I think I have pretty solid goal for myself. I don't really care about earning money. The reason I want to get a degree in BME is that I felt like Industrial Engineering covers too much broad area. It's like being a generalist rather than a specialist. I'm also considering getting phd degree. If I can be a professor? That's great! But if I can't? Doesn't really matter, I would go to any lab for either organizations or companies. Right now I just want to study more and research on where I'm interested. That's all.
