This picture featuring a 20 year old hard drive from IBM and a small SD memory card from last year to the right. Both devices can store the same amount of data, well a modern SD card can store 32 GB or something similar.

The first computer I had that was totally mine was a commodore vic 20. Where home computers are now, compared to where they were still astounds me. Same with my workstation.
My youngest is 14 and he can't imagine having to write his own code to get a program to work, let alone the size of the equipment we used to have to deal with.
1 Gig used to be the stuff of science fiction.

I stuck with the 64 for ages then went straight to the Amiga. By the time I could afford a decent model though, the PC had already started to dominate the market.
After that, there was no going back. Windows PCs had made their way into everything.
Do you remember what you paid for the Vic20? How about the 64?
I think I paid about $600 in 1982(?) for the VIC20. It came with the tape (cassette) drive.
It was bought for me as a present so I've got no idea what the vic 20 went for. Same with the 64. The 64 must have been pretty costly though because it came with a printer, disk drive and tape drive. That was a good set-up.
I recall when RAM was going for $50/Mb! It does blow the mind. I bought a 1 Tb external hard disk drive a couple months ago for about $100! Unheard of ten years ago!
