I am looking to cut spur gears to replace stripped gears from a machine in the workshop.
I will be cutting them on a wire edm machine.
I am gaving difficulty gettng accurate measurements to recreat the correct sized gear.
I have formulas to work out everything i need but i have too many unknowns.
Can anyone help with how to measure the pitch circle/pitch diameter of the gear. with this i should be good to calculate the remaning things i need.
I really don't think EDM would be accurate enough for spur gears for a machine. Creating the path for the EDM would be a very complex thing if the gears are to have any appreciable mechanical accuracy and reliability for a machine. You could check something like Boston Gears for stock gear blanks and save yourself a lot of time, wasted-effort and money.
If this is for a light project such as something EDM-d from acrylic or plywood etc, there are ton of online sites that will help you generate a GCode path. But if this is for a serious piece of machinery, then you are working towards some hard work and disappointment.
