Calculating the pressure drop of a grill

I am an engineering student who is also currently working in a professional capacity and would like to request some help assistance.

I am currently tasked with designing an outlet grill for one of the products we manufacture. The grill is fitted at the end of a duct which is connected to a ventilation unit. The grill discharges directly in to the property.

I need to calculate the pressure drop (resistance) of this grill at a given flowrate.

How can I calculate this ?

    Thanks in advance

    Sounds like a louver.... See:

Seems they derived their design from test data.

    Hi Rory,

As Kelly mentioned, almost certainly test data, but you could get a start on it by considering the area lost to the louvers and also the drop in flow rate in bending the air flow if the louvers are not parallel to the air flow.

Maybe research some issues for the frontal area of motor vehicles to give you a start on the flow loss considerations.

Finally, since this is a ventilation company you work for, surely this is not the first grill they have built? What did they do for that/those?
