Stress is Force/Area. Ksi stands for kip(1000 pounds)per square inch. Pounds in this case represents the force over square inches, which is the area. In the metric system, Force is in newtons(N) and area is in meters, centimeters, millimeters or any other unit of length. So the unit might be N/cm^2. Sorry is doesn't have a quick name like ksi or psi. Hope this helps.
