People of the world.
Just to introduce myself. Working as a design engineer within the opto/electronics industry. I have been unable to find suitable resources as to the best practice for designing suitable bearing housings and mounting configurations. What I am ideally looking for are sectional views of typical bearings, shaft and retainment methods for commonly used applications. Anything from Optical drives to washing machines.

Many thanks in advance.

Smallone.

A simple fix:

Visit your local bearing house. They will have several catalogs of bearings from major suppliers. In these catalogs most will have sections about engineering and applications. Some will have excellent sectional views of bearings in typical housings, including several bearing configurations.

These catalogs are there for you to take for the asking, provided by the suppliers.

See:

/bearing_menu.shtml

/bearing/bearing_selection.htm

I hope you're not trying to invent a new bearing. I would research and buy a pre-engineered bearing component.

Search the internet for SKF bearings, Timken, Torrington

Like the add on TV... "But, isn't that the idea?"

Your comment had to make Kelley's day!

I was the third born into my family and since my parents already had a boy (Mike) and a girl (Patricia) they decided that no matter what sex the child was they going to name it "Kelly". So, here I am Kelly the guy. Some benefits though, I did get assigned to the girls locker room for PE in the seventh grade that lasted for about an hour. I receive free women's magazines and feminine samples in the mail, which I have given to the women in my life. Often, when a telemarketer calls and asks for Ms. or Mrs. Kelly B. I can honestly say "nobody here by that name!"

Anyway, nor you or the other dude appeal to me unless either one of you like to fish, own a fishing boat, or have a hunting lease - which I can use, for free...

...... .... ... oh my...
I have now had my healthy morning laugh...

....This really should be a new thread....

Kelly, it never occured to me a single moment that you could have been a female. I sometimes run into ladies named Randi. .... I think when talking engineering concepts I (right or wrong) automatically picture a male's mind on the other end of the conversation. That is not the way it should be, but it is the way it is.

...so, this Pandora's box is opened....

I am sure there are some great female engineers "out there", but I have never had the pleasure to work with one. I would love to. I have worked with a couple brilliant ladies that were not so great (and quite numerous males that were not so great) because both of them were too pre occupied with trying to prove they were just as good as the men to do their job to the best of their skill level. The thing is both of them had loads of talent, great minds, and educations. I hope both are doing well and have gotten past the lowering of the voice and being forceful to try and fit into the engineering world. I think bright female engineers that would bring the female perspective into the craft are way too few and I would welcome one as a peer and asset. (bright engineers are too few, period) If any female engineers read this, let me make it clear, we need you! ...and I hope you realize you can act like a woman, and don't need to lower yourself to any caveman like functions to be accepted. I for one would have more respect for a lady engineer who is herself... a lady, with all the wonderful female emotional and mental skills we men lack.... those attributes would be an asset.. .. and the same goes for some males, many are too busy proving they are an engineer to perform at their best skill level.
I think it is time we had more female engineers.

Any comments?

Just finished the tongue and working on my shoe laces now....Thank God I wore sneakers.

Randy...I worked with an excellent engineer..she held multiple ME degrees...but surcumbed to some chauvenistic management.

Darn shame

Absolutely not at all, I`m just want the learn the appropraite methods for different configurations. I want to get it right first time.

Also searched this site, but didn`t find what I`m looking for.

I`ll talk to our local suppliers.

Thanx guys.
