I am in need to design a temporary bridge for equipment over a thiry foot span, the equipment weight is 17,500#, I would like to keep the weight of the individual pieces as low as possible but need it to be plenty strong. Any information on sizing steel will be great, should I use I beams? Thank you very much, enjoy your day!

I don't want to be a downer, but you should have an engineer design the bridge. 17,500# is a lot whether it's kilograms, pounds, or whatever.
That said, if you insist on doing it yourself, there a number of freeware programs available for sizing simple steel beams. Try googling Beamboy.
