I am designing a fibre impregnating machine (resin) which is based on the principle of two rollers squeezing the fibre cloth through.... does anyone know how i could calculate the drag this action will cause in order to specify the correct drive motor?

Regards,

Lang

I might suggest "Pulling" the fibers thru the resin then over a smooth non-rolling bar. By adjusting the degree of fiber contact against the bar and the direction pulled, you can both inpregnate the fibers as well as "squeegy" off the excess.

We used a rotating tank mandrel as the pulling device.
(filiment winding FRP tanks)

Hope this helps or at least generate some other ideas.

I have no idea on how to calculate this empirically. Ultimately, all engineering analysis is based on testing criterion. My suggestion is to to build a mockup and measure the resistance with several different pressures.
