need help.... beam overhang strength Question

I am building a race motor and will need to move it from my building to a bed of a truck. I have a structure designed but need to know what beam to use. The beam will be 10' long with a 5' unsupported overhang for truck bed access. I was thinking of a beam with 4" flanges 4" tall, 1/4" thick. The weight needed to safely carry on the end will be 1000 lbs. I will have an electric winch on a beam trolley with this structure. The V frames will be bolted to the floor. A rough dwg. attached.
If the beam mentioned is not enough what beam would be reccommended.

I have found a beam 4" 7.7 (S beam) .....will this work????

No, the S4x7.7 will not work. It barely works if it is continuously braced, which this one will not be...

Assuming the beam as closely as discribed, It would be a wide flange (W4x13). Also, as discribed, The supports "Fixed" to the floor, Your situation looks like this:

Mmax= PL=1000 x 60"= 60,000 in.lbs.
Z required= M/Sa= 60,000/21,600= 2.777 < Zx@ 6.28,therefore O.K.

Sa = Max. Allowable Stress Value for A-36 steel beam.
Z req. = Section Modulus Required.
Zx = Section Modulus of Actule W4x13 Beam.

Looks like your present set up is O.K. for the Job.

Note: I would check to be sure the beam is truly a W4x13.
A lot of Misc. sized beams are availible, but may not
the properties you want.
